John ASHWORTH (Bachelor and an Assistant Apothecary in the 17th Regiment N.I) on 13th November 1839 at St. Mary’s Church, Fort St. George by Hy. MCMAHON, A.M. Garrison Chaplain, in the presence of James CORTNELL, J. S. HARVEY and Ann CORTNELL. (BFA #0498586 VOL. 19/196) married Anne Marie WILMOT of Masulipatam) born 2nd July 1823, daughter of Thomas, printer and Lucy (CUMMINGS) WILMOT), children:

  1. Lucy Charlotte ASHWORTH b. ? died 2nd April 1841 at the age of 11  months in Vizagapatam. 
  2. John Wilmot Ashworth b. 16th September 1841.died: 29th December 1900 - 59 yrs 3 mos. of age. He was a pensioned Telegraph Master. He died of dyspepsion (sp?) and was buried at Pursulvatum, Madras.  BFA#0498599 Burials Index  VOL. 88/164.

John Wilmot ASHWORTH Telegraph Master (b. 16th September 1841. BFA #0498576 Index to Baptisms. VOL 20/356   Black Town Chapel, Black Town, Madras. His father was an Assistant Apothecary.  Baptised by Sig. George Knox, A.B. Assistant Chaplain, in the presence of Sponsors Charles Sales, Christian Jean and Rebecca Sale ) married Mary Jane ??, children:

  1. Ann Maria Ashworth (b. 6 July 1864. BFA # 0498578 Baptisms (1860 - 1871) VOL. 45/185. Her father was a signaller of the Gov’t Tel. Dept.Calicut, living in Madras.  Anna Maria was privately baptised 17 July 1864. At 2 (?) mnths. of age she died 20th October 1864 of convulsions and was buried at St. Mary’s Burial Ground, Madras. 
  2. Jane Wilhelmina Ashworth (b 8th of September 1871, baptism: 25th October 1871  BFA #0521859 VOL. 52/205, d 1945)
  3. Stella Mary Ashworth ( Christened 24 May 1877 Bengal Presidency.)  
  4. There may be others. My research was not completed.   

John Wilmot ASHWORTH (b. 16th September 1841. BFA #0498576 Index to Baptisms. VOL 20/356   Black Town Chapel, Black Town, Madras. His father was an Assistant Apothecary.  Baptised by Sig. George Knox, A.B. Assistant Chaplain, in the presence of Sponsors Charles Sales, Christian Jean and Rebecca Sale ) at St. Mark's Church, North Black Town, Madras,  2nd marriage:  to Adeline Ruth CHRISTIAN, daughter of Solomon CHRISTIAN on 22nd July 1885. BFA #0498588 (1871-1898) VOL. 66/Folio 227). He was 44yrs. widower, working for the Government Telegraph Dept. She was a 23yr.s. old spinster. Their residences were in North Black Town at the time of  the marriage. They were married in the presence of Thomas JONES and J.N.ADOLPHUS. The Chaplain was Richard P. BURNETTE, M.A. Children:

  1. Amelia Christian ASHWORTH born 6th June 1886 Christened 12th September 1886, Black Town, Madras. BFA #0521874
  2. Adeline Maria ASHWORTH born 10th May 1887. Christened 19th June 1887 in Black Town.
  3. There may be others. Research not complete.

Jane Wilhelmina ASHWORTH Spinster, 17 years old, (b 8th of September 1871,d 1945) on 4th of March 1889 at St Mark's Church, NBT, Madras, married Robert HEATHCOTE 25 year old bachelor, Fitter by profession (b. 19 Nov. 1863  chr. 1 Jan 1864). They had ten children.

  1. Gladys Millicent Heathcote  (b. Feb 1890 d. Oct. 1947)
  2. Samuel Goddin Heathcote (b. 24 Jul 1891 d. 8 Mar 1936)
  3. Muriel Jane Heathcote (b. 2 Jul 1893 d. Feb 1968 London, England) Never married.
  4. Mary "May"  Heathcote (b. 1895 d. 1970)
  5. Robin Heathcote (b. 189? d. 1950)
  6. John Cuthbert "Bertie"  Heathcote (b. 4 Nov 1903  d. 16 Nov 1969)
  7. Annie Heathcote (b. 4 Nov 1903 d. 1920 - drowning) - twin
  8. Elsie Heathcote (b. 1905 d. 1985)
  9. Grace Heathcote (b. 1908 d. 198?)
